SolutionHi @DavidIkeda ,
Symptoms indicate early hardware failure triggering thermal/fan protection mode. Common causes: PSU, RAM, CPU, board issues, or loose connections.
Please follow the quick diagnostic steps:
- External Checks:
Test power outlet/cord, monitor, VGA cable.
Unplug 5-10 min, power cycle. Note auto-power-on (possible short). - Internal Inspection:
Open case, clean dust, reseat all cables (power, data, front panel).
Check fans spinning; ensure panel closed.
Inspect for damage (bulging caps, corrosion). - LEDs/Beeps:
Front LEDs: Power (green), Health (red/amber = fault).
Board LEDs: Near CPU/RAM/fans indicate failures.
Listen for beeps: None = early fail; patterns = RAM/CPU/PSU issues. - Minimal Config Test:
Remove drives, cards, extra RAM (keep 1 ECC DIMM in slot 1, CPU, PSU).
Power on. If video appears, add components one-by-one to isolate fault.
No video? Test/swap PSU, RAM, CPU. Suspect board if all fail. - If BIOS Reached:
Check RBSU (F9), IML (F10), temps/fan status.
Run Insight Diagnostics from SmartStart CD.
These could be the probable causes:
- PSU: Replace (350W/460W HP unit).
- RAM: Test single module; ensure ECC DDR3.
- CPU/PPM: Reseat, check pins/thermal paste.
- Board: Corrosion or failure
Please refer to the HPE ProLiant ML110 G6 Server Maintenance and Service Guide for more information.
