HP PROLIANT ML110 GEN10 SERVER SMART ARRAY E208I-P SR GEN 10 HOW TO CHANGE FAILED SPARE HD
HP PROLIANT ML110 GEN10 SERVER SMART ARRAY E208I-P SR GEN 10 HOW TO CHANGE FAILED SPARE HD
Hello all, have a RAID 5 configuration with 4 drives one failed on slot 3 so i added a spare on slot 5 and the system repair the raid that was marked as degraded hd soon will fail after this procedure slot 3 became the spare drive and eventually is failed now is marked as critical and wonder what is the correct procedure to exchange the drive with a good spare ?
am thinking of restarting the server and go in the system utilities remove the drive from being spare and save the config remove the damage drive without restarting then put in the new drive and go back into the raid config and add the good spare as a hot spare and done. Is this correct any input will be greatly appreciated !
Thanks

Hello,
Here's the short answer on replacing the failed spare drive in your HP ProLiant ML110 Gen10 with Smart Array E208i-P SR Gen10 RAID 5:
Boot the server and enter System Utilities.
Locate the RAID configuration. (Consult your server's manual for specific instructions)
Break the failed drive (slot 3) from being a spare.
Perform a logical drive rebuild using the new spare drive (slot 5). This rebuilds the data onto the new spare.
After successful rebuild, remove the physically failed drive (slot 3).
The new spare (slot 5) will become the online hot spare.
I hope the information may helps you.

Re: HP PROLIANT ML110 GEN10 SERVER SMART ARRAY E208I-P SR GEN 10 HOW TO CHANGE FAILED SPAR
, i have rebuilt the array from predictive failure the drive in slot 5 that was the spare is now part of the array and the drive in slot 3 is marked as the spare but of course shows as critical failure
My question is how do i remove properly the drive in slot 3 that is marked critical and is the new spare ?
Do i go in to the sytem utilites raid configuration remove slot 3 drive as being a hot spare and save settings shut down remove the damaged drive in slot 3 replace with a new one and go back into system utilities on the raid add slot 3 as a hot spare safe and then boot ?

Re: HP PROLIANT ML110 GEN10 SERVER SMART ARRAY E208I-P SR GEN 10 HOW TO CHANGE FAILED SPAR
As I understand -
The array has rebuilt, Drive in Slot5 (Which was spare) has taken over as a part of the array. The Drive in Slot3 (Which was initially degraded in array) is still on the server and is stated as degraded.
The ask now is how to replace the faulted drive?
If so, Once the array is restored, please take a backup. Post that you can replace the drive with a new one. Wait for the drive to show back up in SSA as spare.
Please let me know if the query differs and I'll try my level best to assist accordingly.
