HP Smart Array P421 can't detect drives

We got HP Gen8 server ordered which have embeded HP Dynamic Smart Array B320i RAID Controller controller and additional HP Smart Array P421. Drives are detected under  B320i RAID Controller but we don't want to use it so I switched it off in BIOS. Now I'm trying to get these drive to be detected in HP Smart Array P421 controller but unfortunatly it doesn't work and controller always reports "No Drives Detected" :(
Host Bus Adapter recognize drives correctly.

What I missed in configuration ?
I have no phisical access to server as it has been shipped straight to Datacenter but I have access via iLO.

Thanks for any suggestion.

Re: HP Smart Array P421 can't detect drives

You need to pull the internal cables from the built-in controller and connect them to the other controller.

Hope this helps!

THis would be true if it was a P420 controller. The P421 controller only has external ports and is not intended to connect to the systems drive backplane,. THe P421 is meant for connecting to external stoage systems

OK, I stopped thinking about at the point "...I have no phisical access to server...", because the cables are still connected to the built-in controller ;-)

Hope this helps!

Re: HP Smart Array P421 can't detect drives

So it means that P421 controller will only works with external storage ?
Not good news for us, as looks like someone who made order  haven't look closer to what he is ordering. HP Dynamic Smart Array B320i RAID is useless to us, as this server will be running BSD and I can't even boot kernel on it.

So to "fix it" whould I request to swap P421 controller to P420 and reconnect backplain cable to it ?

Many Thanks for help !!!
