Hp Smart Storage Administrator Question - How to delete an Array without losing data
We have an HP Proliant ML110 Gen 9 server with two disks in the following configuration in the HP Smart Storage Administrator:
4 data arrays
4 logical data units
4 data units
Being:
Array A - Logical Unit 1
931.48 GiB (1000.17 GB), RAID 0
1TB SATA HDD
Port 1I: Compartment 1
Array B - 1 logical unit(s) - Logical unit 2
1.82 TiB (2.00 TB), RAID 0
2TB SATA HDD
Port 1I: Compartment 2
Array C - 1 logical unit(s) - Logical unit 3
1.82 TiB (2.00 TB), RAID 0
2TB SATA HDD
Port 1I: Compartment 3
Array D - 1 logical unit(s) - Logical unit 4
9.10 TiB (10.00 TB), RAID 0
10TB SATA 512e HDD
Port 1I: Compartment 4
I want to copy the data from arrays b and c (they are in mirror mode on the Windows server) to a 6TB HD and then remove the two 2TB HDs that are in mirror mode on Windows. Leaving you with a 1TB HDD, a 6TB HDD and a 10TB HDD, but the server has more ports available to install the 6TB HDD. So in testing, I removed the 10TB hard drive and inserted the 6TB one, but it gave me an error when accessing the HP Storage Administrator and showing me the error on the array. My question is how can I make these copies without losing the data on the 10tb HD.
Sorry by english mistakes.

Re: Hp Smart Storage Administrator Question - How to delete an Array without losing data
Dear patrickdelgado
as per your given senario, you are doing a big mistake by removing 10TB HDD from existing RAID configuration. it will showing you as RAID degreeded and there is amber LED glowing on server health. Please re-connect 10TB HDD again and check if there is all OK, then connect an extarnal HDD on server copy all of your data from wanted VD/Disk. or you also can copy your data by network sharing option, it will take little more times, but it works. If you re-connect 10TB HDD and it will not validated by RAID controller as previous configuration. your full data on 10TB/RAID0 HDD will be lost as RAID 0 have no redundency means once RAID controller detected as RAID 0 HDD getting faulty/removed/configuration changes, all data on this Virtual Disk was lost, and could not recovered.
HPE recommends to get full data backup before doing any activity on RAID array.
I hope, it could provide you with clear and helpful instructions. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help! Have a great day!
Thanks & Regards...

Re: Hp Smart Storage Administrator Question - How to delete an Array without losing data
Hello,
If the data on logical arrays B and C is still accessible, perform backup as desired and then go on to perform desired drive configuration.
In the stated configuration, a point to note is that there is no hardware redundancy configured, hence any drive failure or otherwise swapping of any hard drive will result in data loss.
Regards,

@rabindra11sharm
thanks for the feedback, can I backup the 2tb drive to an external hard drive or via network and then delete array b and c, remove the two 2TB HDDs then install the 6TB HDD and create a new array on that 6TB HDD preserving the data from the 10TB HDD?

Thanks for the feedback, I ask the same question: can I backup the 2TB drive to an external hard drive or via network and then delete array b and c, remove the two 2TB HDDs then install the 6TB HDD and create a new array on that 6TB HDD preserving the data from the 10TB HDD?

Re: Hp Smart Storage Administrator Question - How to delete an Array without losing data
Dear patrickdelgado
You can backup to an external drive or network drive for Array B & C. as it is still available. after that you can delete the array and replace with new drive then reconfigure new array, after that restore your backuped data. for 10TB HDD means array D, it is already you removed, So it might possible for data losses. but once you can re attach in same possition and check. if the HDD detected on previous configuration, which chance is too low, you can retrive your data. if it is deteced as new drive/unconfigured drive means you lost every thing in that Logical Volume.
Thanks & Regards...

Re: Hp Smart Storage Administrator Question - How to delete an Array without losing data
The 10 TB HD was already installed again on the server, there was no data loss. the files are accessible. Now I want to do what I said previously, copy the contents of the files from Array B and C via the network to another computer. Then access the Storage Administrator, remove arrays B and C, then remove the two 2TB disks, install the 6TB HD, create a new array, then copy the files via the network that were on the 2TB HD to this 6TB HD. So, theoretically, the files on the 10TB HD would not suffer loss, right?
