A number of my queries pertain to installing a single NVME drive in the HPE DL20 Gen 10 server.

1. Is the HPE P/N P06687-B21 (Dedicated iLO port/M.2 NVMe SSD/COM port upgrade kit) necessary for installing an NVME PCIe 3.0 drive?

I have found contradictory information, with the instructions stating that it is possible to install an NVME PCIe drive with or without P06687-B21 directly into the NVME slot on the motherboard, hence avoiding the need for the upgrade kit.

Can a 22110 length NVME drive (110mm) be installed, and is there a 110mm mounting point on the chassis?

3. Is it possible to utilise a third-party NVME without producing the 85%+ Fan issue I've read about in this community?

4.I wish to install a 1.9TB NVME PCIe 3.0 hard drive; are there any limitations?

I would like to use the NVME drive within the OS (Server 2019 Standard) to boost the performance of a few VM discs.

Currently, 2x HPE SATA Disks (non-SSD) are operating in Raid-1.

As the server is now in production, it cannot be physically examined to address issues 2 and 3, thus any assistance or advice would be welcomed.

Hi,

First lets check the QuickSpecs of HPE DL20 Gen10 server.
Page# 21 states that P06687-B21 "HPE DL20/ML30 Gen10 M.2/Dedicated iLO and Serial Port Kit"
This option is required to support M.2 NVMe drives, Dedicated iLO Port or Serial/COM Port.
This kit includes one dedicated iLO module and one serial port cable, with one M.2 slot on the module for M.2 SSD installation.
Page# 25 shows the part number for NVMe - M.2.- Solid State Drives (22110 type)
