HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 Server Critical Fault

Hello,

I've the base model of the DL20 Gen9 (without warranty/support) and suddenly it turned off and the front LEDs started to blink. In the iLO, it shows the message: "Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, Processor, Processor 1 (01h))" with "01/01/1970 00:01" timestamp.

Did anyone knowledge about this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

For such issues, we recommend to update BIOS and other firmware's for the server.

To troubleshoot further, you can check these documents:

Thank You!

Hi,

thanks for your response. I thought it, but I cannot perform a BIOS update since the server doesn't boot.

Re: HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 Server Critical Fault

Since the server is out of warranty you can try performing minimum configuration and check if it completes the POST. May help to isolate faulty component. However it is also possible that this error is coming because of processor or systemboard itself. If you have a second processor then try with the same and check. If issue still persists then you might have to log a support ticket.

Re: HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 Server Critical Fault

I left the server two days completely disconnected without CMOS battery. I just tried with minimal configuration and it turns on, POST completed, but after 5 minutes it suddenly turns off with same error in the IML:

  • 6   System Error 01/01/2001 01:05 01/01/2001 01:05 1 Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Power On Fault, Processor, Processor 1 (01h))
  • 5   System Error 01/01/2001 01:05 01/01/2001 01:05 1 Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, Processor, Processor 1 (01h))

It is possible that the issue is isolated to Processor 1 or the systemboard itself. We request you to log a support ticket as this will require further troubleshooting to isolate the issue.

Do I need some kind of support to log a ticket? This server is out of warranty since is for homelab usage.

Re: HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 Server Critical Fault

@alberto_sosa101

Good day!

Basically, the error message "Processor 1 (01h)" suggests that the problem might be related to the first processor in your server. There could be various reasons for this fault, such as a hardware failure, overheating, or a power-related issue. The "01/01/1970 00:01" timestamp likely indicates that the server's internal clock was reset, which can happen when the server loses power.

Since your server is out of warranty and support, troubleshooting and resolving the issue might be more challenging, but here are some general steps you can take:

>>Firstly, try turning off the server completely by disconnecting the power cables, waiting for a few minutes, and then reconnecting the power to see if it resolves the issue.

>> Ensure that all hardware components, especially the processor(s), are seated correctly. Sometimes, loose connections can cause such faults.

>> Examine the server's components for any signs of physical damage or burnt parts. If you find any, it could indicate a specific hardware failure.

>> Access the iLO (Integrated Lights-Out) interface again and check the server's logs for any additional error messages or warnings that might provide more insight into the problem.

>> If your server's firmware and BIOS are not up to date, consider updating them to the latest versions. Sometimes, updates can address known issues and improve system stability.

>> Ensure that the server is in a well-ventilated environment and is receiving adequate power supply to prevent overheating and power-related issues.

>> While your server is out of warranty, you can still try contacting HPE Support for assistance. They might provide some guidance, but keep in mind that they may not offer extensive support for out-of-warranty devices.

Hope the above instructions helps! Let me know

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.
