HPE server Dl380 gen10 refused recognize SSDs disks

Hi Team,

We have a customer site running on HPE DL380 Gen10 with a HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 controller.
The system currently has 2× 600 GB SAS disks for the OS.

FW upgrade is done for smart array controller 7.81 and ILo 3.15

We attempted to replace these with a new disk setup that was preconfigured with some data:

  • 2× 600 GB SAS disks

  • 2× 1.6 TB SSDs

However, the new setup only mounts partially — the OS 600 GB disks are recognized and boot correctly, but the 1.6 TB SSDs are not detected.

From the ILO console POST, we observed Error 1932.

Please advise on possible causes or next troubleshooting steps.

Best regards,
Danny K.

Re: HPE server Dl380 gen10 refused recognize SSDs disks

Error 1932 appears during POST, and ssacli reports a cache problem preventing configuration changes.

Possible Causes:

Failed cache module causing Error 1932 and SSD detection failure.
Incompatible or faulty 1.6 TB SSDs.
Foreign configuration on SSDs.
Loose connections or backplane issue.

Please for the following troubleshooting steps:

Run ssacli ctrl slot=0 show detail for cache specifics.
Replace cache module. Reboot & retest SSD.
Reseat SSDs; verify HPE-certified SAS SSDs (1.6TB supported).
Check iLO IML logs; clear foreign config if needed: ssacli ctrl slot=0 ld all delete (backup data first).
If SSDs have prior RAID, delete via SSA (F10 during boot).

Next: Replace cache - primary fix.

Please contact HPE support with ssacli output/IML if persists.

Re: HPE server Dl380 gen10 refused recognize SSDs disks

Hi Team,

I followed your instructions to identify the issue.

The issue was resolved after I installed two empty SSD disks alongside the existing two SAS OS disks to create a RAID 1 array with the new SSDs.

Once that was done, I ran the command:
ssacli ctrl slot=0 show config

ssacli ctrl slot=0 pd all show

and confirmed that RAID 1 was successfully configured on the new SSD disks.

Afterward, I swapped all four disks (2×SAS and 2×SSD) with the intended disks containing data. All disks are now mounted successfully.
