HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 - RAID6 (ADG)
Guten Tag
Server: ProLiant ML350 Gen10
Product ID: 877623-421
Storage Controller: HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10
Disk: SAS 600GB
Model: EH000600JWHPN
Geschwindigkeit: 15k
Anzahl: 8
Fehlertoleranz: RAID 6 (ADG)
Gruss
Chris

Good day

Number: 8
Fault Tolerance: RAID 6 (ADG)
I'm using an HP ProLiant ML350 Gen10 with a Smart Array Controller P408i-a storage controller. I have 8 pcs of disk in a RAID (ADG) composite.
I've heard from colleagues a number of times that a RAID 6 (ADG) does not work optimally with 8 disk. Ideal would be five disk or nine disk. The controller could thus work optimally.
Has anyone had any experience with it or does anyone know about it?
I look forward to an answer and thank you for your efforts.
Greeting
Chris

Re: HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 - RAID6 (ADG)
Hello,
In Raid 6, increasing the number of drives will increase the Read speed. But the write speed will not have much difference.
So for example, if we have 8 drives with 1TB each in RAID 6
Usable Capacity 6 TB
Speed 6x read speed, no write speed gain
And if we use 6 Drives with 1TB each in RAID 6
Usable Capacity 4 TB
Speed 4x read speed, no write speed gain
I hope the above example explained above answers your question.
Regards
Raj
