HPE SUM and Smartupdate on Linux
Hello, is this correct procedure to update firmware of all components of HPE server?
I have ProLiant DL345 Gen11
I have HPE repositories as source of required packages:
https://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/repo/fwpp-gen11/RedHat/8/x86_64/current/
https://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/repo/spp-gen11/redhat/8/x86_64/current/
https://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/repo/sum/rhel/8.0Server/x86_64/current/
I install sum software:
yum install sum
Then I install all firmware packages (these are just like zip files with firmware files) from fwpp-gen11 repository:
yum install firmware-*
Now I let it to analyze my hardware and print versions and available firmware updates:
smartupdate list
And I updrade anything which has higher fw version available:
smartupdate upgrade

Re: HPE SUM and Smartupdate on Linux
Greetings!
After applying the firmware, please reboot the server and verify whether the changes have been successfully implemented.

Re: HPE SUM and Smartupdate on Linux
Thank you for you response, yes reboot is required, but I asked because, because I just install all firmware packages which are awailable for RHEL8 (yum install firmware-*) and then I let sum/smartupdate to verify my HW and install only those firmwares which are applicable to my server model (smartupdate list and smartupdate upgrade), but often there are issues and I need to make some manual actions, like uninstall some firmware (for samsung SSD disk) or upgrade some firmware manually and separatelly (Intel NET card), but this situatation is dynamic and is changing how firmware packages are changing in HPE repositories.
Example of the Intel NET/NIC nissue - I either must remove that firmware or upgrade it individually to not block upgrade of other firmwares.:
smartupdate upgrade

Re: HPE SUM and Smartupdate on Linux
You can also use the Gen11 SPP to update the firmware. Only applicable firmware for your model would be updated. https://support.hpe.com/docs/display/public/a00sppdocen_US/spp/#/
