Re: Install psp 7.9
what is your OS? windows 2003? w2000?
if your OS is W2000 you need PSP 7.6 instead of PSP 7.9
when you download and extract the PSP you get a lot of .exe files
which ones have you tried? just in case try setupex.exe... and see what you get
- sometimes PSP creates a log file with the errors did you see any?
- also remove any attached device to the server

Re: Install psp 7.9
I shutdown the backup device and the server, start server and run exe file. First I try hpsum.exe and then setupex.exe. The same result: Discovery Failed
I checked for log file â couldnâ t find.
I changed DEP only for Windows essential program. The same "Discovery Failed"

Re: Install psp 7.9
that error is because PSP detects that Hardware is not ready for the installation or a software is interrupting the discovery process...
"The host is not ready for installation. The detection of installed hardware, software, and firmware has failed."
mmm let's try this
do you know which PSP do you have right now? just to know
1.
in case you have any device disable on Device manager please enable it, all of them have to be enable (like a NIC card that you're not using, that maybe you disabled)
2. if not
try updating first firmware CD and after that apply PSP again
Firmware CD 7.5
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24777.html
try again installing PSP 7.9
3. if not
try PSP 7.8 or 7.7
and check if we get the same errors messages?
let me know any update (it is really a new issue for me)

Re: Install psp 7.9
If you will zip and post the files from the %TEMP%\hp_sum directory, I'll take a look at why discovery is failing. Most likely it is because of a problem occurring when we scan the SCSI bus and find your external SCSI device. The trace log files should confirm this.

Re: Install psp 7.9
The directory structure is normally present in the C:\Documents and Settings\
In some cases, the number is not present. The userid is the administrator ID you used when you executed HPSUM.
As an example, if you used the user "Administrator", you might see the directory in the following location:
c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\1\hp_sum

Re: Install psp 7.9
The discovery failed because we had a problem parsing the data in the Service Descriptor Table. The Service Descriptor Table contains the list of running services, what the run state (running, stopped, etc), and what programs loaded them. HPSUM didn't generate a srvdiscovery.xml file which it merges into discovery.xml during the discovery process. When I've seen this before, it has meant one of two things.
1) The server is running in a language setting other than English or Japanese. We had a bug in HPSUM in the 7.90 PSP where it didn't work in non-English language environments. This has been fixed for the next version due out next month.
2) There was data returned from the services table that contained special characters (path to a file, language-specific tags other than English, or within a service name) that did not work with our discovery tool. We had an issue reported on this and fixed it, but it may not be in a version of HPSUM available to you until 1Q08.
In the meantime, there are a couple of things you can do to resolve this.
1) Change the language setting in your locale to English when you run HPSUM (or setup.exe, which now just calls HPSUM) and change it back afterwards.
2) Use the Remote Deployment Utility (RDU) out of the PSP 7.80 to deploy the PSP 7.90.

Michael

Re: Install psp 7.9
There are a couple of things to do, but not what you have down.
1) If you think the SCSI device is causing the failure, disconnect it from the server.
2) Run HPSUM to install the PSP 7.90.
That's all you should need to do if you think the device is causing the problem.
If you are running in a non-English OS, do the following:
1) Go to Control Panel and change the "Regional and Language Options" and set your language to English.
2) Run HPSUM to install the PSP 7.90.
If you want to run the older RDU, copy the setup.exe, msxml3.cab, setupcor.dll, elmsetup.dll files to the same directory as the PSP 7.90. Run setup.exe to launch the older RDU product.

Michael

Re: Install psp 7.9
I shut down the backup device and started the firmware management CD from windows.
It is something was installed and by the way itâ s started PSP and looks like it did some discovery. When it was done, it show me is server donâ t need any update (the latest firmware for ROM BIOS was from 2002)
The second try it was to run PSP 7.9 and gave me the same message Discovery Failed.
The third try it was to run PSP 7.8. It was gave me on the end: installation failed.
Here is the log:

Re: Install psp 7.9
let me picture this
so when you start firmware CD 7.5 server says it is not supported? is that 7.5?
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24777.html
something else it seems that when you run PSP 7.8 the Failed Discovery message does not appear just that big log regarding System management homepage right?
do you have the SNMP Service(protocol) install on windows?
you can check that checking SNMP Service on windows Services
am I right with my points or you have something else to add?

Re: Install psp 7.9
Igor
well I was looking for a Firmware CD matrix... something regarding server and Firmware version but I could not find something like that
also Igor checking this issue PSP is OK? or maybe the server needs PSP 7.6 because it is a G2, at this point I've always thought that the PSP is related with the OS
