Install Win 2016 on RAID

I have to reinstall Win 2016 on a Proliant DL380 Gen10 where the C: drive is a firrored RAI,. because I lost the admin password. I can boot the computer from a thumb drive , but a window pops up saying that it needs the driver for the disk. How do get the driver software I need.

Hello,

Which controller are you using on this server? Generally, Windows contains the drivers for the Smart Array controllers, so there is no need to specify the driver. If you do get this type of message, this usually means that you may be using the SW based raid controller on the system board (S100i) or the BIOS version on the server does not have support for Windows Server 2016.

The RAID controller shows up in Intelligent Provisioning as HPE Smart Array P508i-a SR. When I boot from a Windows install thumb drive I get to the point of doing a custom install thumb drive I get a windows asking where to install Windows. No disks show up there and at the bottom of the window I get a message saying that “We couldn’t find any drives. To get a storage drive, click on Load driver. Does HPE have install ISOs with the necessary driver, or is there a SPP ISO that has the driver.

The RAID controller is HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR. Just noticed that I had said 508i by mistake.

When I try to install Windows using the install image from Microsoft, it gets to the point of asking where to install and says it can't find any disks. When I go into Intelegent Provisioning it tells me that I have an HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR. How do I get the driver for the RAID so I can re-install Windows 2016?

I am including a picture of the Intelligent Provisioning screen showing the RAID controller I am using. Could you please help me find the driver file I need. IP shows Smart Array Controller HPE Smart Array P408i-a and when I run the install program and it asks where to install no devices show up. The computer works when I log into it with an non admin account, but I have lost the administrator password so I need to re-install Windows.

You have to check the model number of the HDD and the type of HDD (SAS/SATA) installed on the system.
