Re: install windows 2008r2 on DL380 G4
Hi.
No DL380 G4 is not certified for windows 2008 r2 by HP. Only windows 2008
check the following site for which servers are supported. To view older servers click the small "previous servers" link after choosing the OS.

Re: install windows 2008r2 on DL380 G4
Hi,
We've installed windows 2008 R2 on BL20p G4. With no apparent problems. As the previous respondent said, its not supported, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. The HAL if you look, only seems to support the last 2 generations of Server.
Regards

Re: install windows 2008r2 on DL380 G4
Adding to the above comments, prior to releasing the servers, the hardware configuration is tested against representative, major operating systems at that time. Drivers are made available for most versions of available operating systems in the market.
If the server’s hardware is well above the minimum requirements, then the operating system could be installed. Please check if the following minimum system requirements are met:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd379511(WS.10).aspx
Note: This link will take you outside the Hewlett-Packard web site. HP does not control and is not responsible for information outside the HP web site.
In this case, the hardware has not been tested on Windows Server 2008 R2 and hence is not included in the list of supported operating systems. This means, that drivers are not released for operating systems that have not been tested on the server. It is possible that the server image contains the drivers for most devices, but may not contain a driver for all components.
Thus it may be actually possible to install the operating system, subsequent performance of the server depend on hardware resources well above the minimum mark and that drivers are available for the particular version of the operating system, without which, the server may not function optimally.

Vijayasarathy
