Installation of W2k-Professional?

Hi,

although not supported by compaq, I have managed to install w2k-professional on our ml370s in the past. I used SmartStart to install the system-partition before booting from the w2k-Pro-CD, pressing F6 to add the driver for the dual-channel SCSI-controller from floppy.

With the latest bunch of ML370s this does not work anymore!

After adding the controller the screen displays "Starting Windows" and nothing happens.

Anybody an idea? Does Compaq not only -not support- but prohibit W2k-Pro now? Pls help, thanks

Re: Installation of W2k-Professional?

I have the older (non-G2) ML370 and I'm also trying to install Win2K Pro. I have the SmartArray 5302 installed, and I did the same thing you did - used SmartStart to get up to the point of OS installation, then booted from the CD.

I found that I had to press F5 at the very first text installation screen. I think it says something about detecting hardware at the top. When I press F5 (I hold it for a second, or it may not work) I get no feedback, but then I get the next screen where I press F6 to later install the SmartArray driver from the floppy. Later in the installation it will ask what HAL to use. I have been trying different ones, but the Standard PC is the one that works for me. I have an identical server running Win2K Server and it indicates it's an ACPI Uniprocessor PC, but that won't work on this system.

Anyway, I get Win2KPro running to the point where it detects devices, and it hangs about half-way through. I'm troubleshooting that right now, but it may not work. If you got this to work, I would love to know how you did it!
