Re: Installing SA641 onto DL380 G2
Hi,
You can remove the faulty 5i controller from the system board once you get the 641 working but you must change the interlock switch at the rear of the server if you do remove it.
Please see this previous forum entry for information.

Re: Installing SA641 onto DL380 G2
I've received SA642 eventually, but just to discover that it's driver is incompatible with 5i driver installed at my system.
I've managed boot into recovery console using a new driver from a diskette. Then I've copied cpqcissm.sys and cpqcisse.sys to \windows\system32\drivers and cpqciss.sys to \windows\system32, but still no luck.
Any ideas? Thanks. V

Re: Installing SA641 onto DL380 G2
hmmm. I have re-chekked the revision history.
The 641/642 support was added july 1st 2003.
So you do need a new driver than that.
Can you do a repair, and then install the newer driver, during the repair process?
If possible borrow a gen. 5 Smart array.
Install it in the server, along with the sa642. Set the gen 5 as boot controller (remember cables on it).
Install the driver.
Remove the gen 5 sa.
set the sa 642 as boot controller.
ps. does it try to boot from the 642?
If not, remember to set it as boot controller.
