Installing Windows NT

I have just taken delivery of this DL380. Server has 3 x 18.2GB drives connected to the embedded Smart Array Controller. Smartstart ran through with no problems and created a logical drive. Now I boot from the NT4 Server CD, it can't find any disks.

Anyone got any ideas how to get around this one ?

Re: Installing Windows NT

Use your Smart Start CD and do an assisted install.

Re: Installing Windows NT

When you run NT Setup from CD you might not be able to load the Compaq array driver (had the same Probs).
So try this one:
Run the Setup from NT Boot(setup)Disks an if the autodetecting of the massstorage Controllers is done, NT won't find the specific driver needed for the Compaq Array Controller. Now you can apply the CPQ Support Disk (array driver mostly disk 4) and if NT could load the driver you can proceed with the Setup!

Re: Installing Windows NT

I tried cp000304.exe it works. The file can be down loaded and extracted. You insert the diskette after autodetecting of the massstorage controllers. NT should recognize the driver and proceed with the setup.

Re: Installing Windows NT

For any NT 4.0 OS manual install that does not use the SmartStart assisted install method, you must download the required Compaq NT 4.0 SSD. See the readme files on the disks for installation instructions. You can download and make the required disks from this web addess.

Re: Installing Windows NT

I tried the SSD option recommended in the previous answer, but after trying all the different diskettes, and loading the Integrated Smart Array Controller, NT still did not see any drives. So I guess that doesn't work.

Re: Installing Windows NT

We have just had the same problem. Solution was:

- Copy files on the folder that contains smart-array-2's if files (under ntssd) (Smart Start CD).
- Install using the 3 floppy disks, specify (S) additional controllers, insert the floppy when required, choose integrated array controller.
- Do not install Network Support at this time (Intel NIC drivers may cause a STOP error)
- Install SSD from Smart Start CD (autorun), Reboot
- Copy files on "Intelnic" folder (SmartStart CD) to a floppy.
- Install Network support and choose Compaq NIC driver from floppy.

Ready (as far as OS is concerned)

Re: Installing Windows NT

Press F6 as soon as the NT installation blue screen starts. Put in the appropriate controller driver floppy disk from the SSD BEFORE the machine detects the IDE controller. If you let it auto-detect, it will find the IDE first and never see the drives hanging off of the SCSI controller as it doesn't see the current version controller.
