IO is slow
We have oracle instance running on the server, the application software (Oracle forms and reports) are accesed from the server using network drive. The application becomes very slow if file restore from tape is going on or we give a large file copy operation. The application is independent of file IO when run on Proliant 2500 system, i.e. it doesn't slow down in performance.
It takes around 8.33 mins to backup 1GB of data to tape.
The ML370 is having 1.2 GB RAM, 3 X 18.6GB Ultra 3 HDD configured as disk array (431 controller), DLT 40, Ultra3 SCSI card for DLT 40 (It supports ULTRA 2), dual network card configured as fault tolerant(we tested configuring as load balancing, but there was no difference).
The Proliant 2500 have 2X2 GB HDD configured as Raid 1, 3 X 9.6 GB HDD configured as disk array (Smart 2 controller), 296 MB RAM, 12/24 GB DAT, Single Network Card
How can I improve the throughput of the system ensuring that the application doesn't slow down while I am restoring data from tape.
