Issue with Installing Windows Server 2008(64-bit) on HP Proliant DL380 G7 using SmartStart 8.7
I have an HP Proliant DL380 G7 server. I am using HP SmartStart 8.7 (x86-64 bit) CD for assisted windows installation. Under the OS selection screen I choose: Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise x64 Edition and then insert the cd (Windows Server 2008 64-bit) as prompted.When I insert the CD, I get the error:
Missing: Sources/*_amd64
I have tested the CD with manual installation i.e. installing it separately without SmartStart, I have no problems in that case which means my OS CD is working fine.
Kindly help me.

Re: Issue with Installing Windows Server 2008(64-bit) on HP Proliant DL380 G7 using SmartStart 8.7
Couple of things I need to know
> Are you using Smart Start 8.70 (B) (1 Dec 2011) ?
If yes are you using bootable USB key for smart start ? I ask this because you are expected to have some issues as per http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&objectID=c02981742
> If installing Windows┬о Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (x64) with four AMD OpteronтДв 6200 Series Processors and greater than 32 cores, Microsoft hotfix kb2563727 will need to be applied. To install without this hotfix, reduce the processor core count to 32 or less through ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) until the hotfix is applied. For more information refer to: Microsoft Article ID 2563727 "0x000000BE" Stop error when you install Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 if more than two 16-core OpteronтДв 6200 Series processors are installed(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563727)
**** Please use Smart Start Smart Start 8.70 (B) rev as prev versions had some installation issues with 2008 R2

Re: Issue with Installing Windows Server 2008(64-bit) on HP Proliant DL380 G7 using SmartStart 8.7
The error is indicating that the media you are using is not a x64 media. as it is searching for the soruces/6.0.6000.16386_amd64 catalog on you media. Now i havn't used Smartstart in a while so i'm not sure if there are any bugs related to this.
I would check the media for it again. if the above mentioned catalog is present on your media then i'ts some kind of bug/error of some other kind. If sources/6.0.6000.16386_x86 is present it's a x86 media then only 32bit operating systems can be installed from it.

Re: Issue with Installing Windows Server 2008(64-bit) on HP Proliant DL380 G7 using SmartStart 8.7
@Goutham-Sabala:
I have used SmartStart v8.70B
I have two Intel Xeon E5649 (2.53GHz/6-core/12MB) processors-total 12 core. So i need not change the number of processors in the RBSU.
@Cederberg:
The installation media being used is 64-bit.
Any Suggestions?

Yes , Smart Start DVD release will be stopped at 8.70 and it will be SPP which includes drivers firmwares and utilities, however SS can be still be used but will not be updated as mentioned above . Starting Gen8 servers it will be only SPP and will not support Smart Start Dvd

If Smartstart is being phased out, are off line diags, and ACU available after booting from SPP?

Nope as of now that is not possible, SPP doesnt provide bootable diagnositcs, smart start has to be carried for any offline diagnostics. SPP team has been provided with this feedback

Re: Issue with Installing Windows Server 2008(64-bit) on HP Proliant DL380 G7 using SmartStart 8.7
After a day of trial and error the combination that worked for me was SmartStart 8.7b with Windows Server 2008 R2 from the CD drive. Microsoft volume licensing media.
What didn't work was the below...
Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1, got stuck at 27%
SmartStart 8.7b it would recognise the install source from the USB drive
I also tried some combinations with R2 with SP1 with SmartStart 8.7 and 8.5.
