Loading Windows 2008 R2 on DL380 G7 without SmartStart
i have been made aware of the issue with SmartStart 8.7 and Windows 2008 R2 volume license media from other posts so i am trying to load Windows without SmartStart.
Once complete i can then load all the HP drivers.
When i boot from CD the install starts however i receive a message titled Load Driver, A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.
It gives me an option to browse to files however i've no idea what driver files it is looking for.
the server has a P4 controller card so found this driver file and browsed to it however i received another message stating No new devices could be found make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media.
Any help would be much appreciated.
regards

Launch executable and select extract.
Unzip to a location of your choice.
Copy the extracted folter to a USB key.
try to pick up drivers from there.

Re: Loading Windows 2008 R2 on DL380 G7 without SmartStart
I experienced the same issue, no way for the Windows 2008 R2 setup to be completed.
I tried to install the OS without Smartstart (with smartstart was a complete nightmare) but Windows canтАЩt see the controller..I then tried to copy the related drivers on a USB stick, the setup process successfully located the driver but canтАЩt install it (message: make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media).
The only thing I was able to do is installing Windows 2008 (not the R2) release, but I donтАЩt want to start with an obsolete OS.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance for any comment or help on this.
Salvatore
EDIT: Fixed! The problem is with the 2008 R2 DVD with SP1 inlcuded! Using the 2008 R2 without SP1 works perfectly both with Smartstart and without! I installed my server and applied the SP after the first reboot. I hope this could help someone..
