looking for new gigabit NIC with PXE boot functionality
l've some DL360 and DL380 G4's that l'll need to install an extra gigabit NIC for.
We intend to bond the 2 onboard NICs for redundancy, but would also like another Ethernet interface that supports PXE boot for our backup network connectivity.
One card l've seen is the HP NC7771. Does anyone know of a cheaper gigabit card that can handle PXE boot?
Thanks in advance,
Alan

Re: looking for new gigabit NIC with PXE boot functionality
I am not very good with pricing, but I guess that card is probably the cheapest one.
For a full list of supported NICs in the DL380 G4 you can have a look there:

Communications section
Personally I would rather choose dual-port NIC - only small premium, but you never know when you will need an extra port!

Re: looking for new gigabit NIC with PXE boot functionality
l also want the spare port, but this project budget it tight.
l have found an Intel 2 port NIC that seems to fit the bill (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=251441&prodlist=pricegrabber) and at only $120 is a bargain. it also supports jumbo frames and PXE boot.
l am wondering if there is a difference between PXE boot from one manufacturer to another, but l'm assuming it's a standard that everyone complies with. Hopefully not a bad assumption ;-)
Thanks,
Alan

Re: looking for new gigabit NIC with PXE boot functionality
One general advise - in ProLiant world always stick to ProLiant options.
When using non-ProLiant parts you risk that it won't work at all or will be very moody.
ProLiant options have specific firmware on them which make them behaving in a slightly diffrent way. That's true even if it's re-labelled product of some other vendor (that's the common case though)
