loss of cd drives

My server is running windows 2000 sp2 and it keeps loosing access to both an ide DVD drive and a scsi cd writer, under my computer they do not register any discs being inserted, BUT I can do a disc to disc copy under NERO cd writing software.

The only way out is to reboot the machine !!

Anyone have any ideas ?
