Machine does not boot

The machine powers up and displays the Compaq logo. It than displays the BIOS information and places the cursor in the top left of the screen - as if waiting to count the memory. Nothing happens.

Have tried replacement memory, disconnecting peripherals, and removing expansion cards to no effect.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Machine does not boot

What OS did you have installed? Have you tried booting from diskettes or CD to see if it can at least do that?

Was anything changed just before this happened (any new software or updates, new hardware)?

Re: Machine does not boot

OK - The machine was (still is) installed with W95. However it won't boot anything - it doesn't get that far - I've even left a DOS boot disk in overnight to see if it just needed time - but still no boot, just the flashing cursor in the top-right of the screen.

Any ideas?

Re: Machine does not boot

Just a simple note: Compaq usually looks for Ram (on top of screen) the Processor, then Controller cards. I have seen this happen on a PRO200, where it did not see the Controllers, but it did ask for a boot disk. If you are not getting past the POST, then, I would guess it is something amiss during the post (obviously), does the machine beep, or anything?

Re: Machine does not boot

I have a Prosignia 200 with a very sick IDE disk. If I remove the disk from the system the computer will not boot from floppy. If I re-install the faulty drive and press the F1 when the drive fails it will then go on to boot from the floppy. I have not tried removing the drive from the Compaq Config yet just incase I can not get the system to boot at all.
Not much help to you but seem a similar problem.
