ML 330 G3 Smart Start Problem

I Have just purchased a ML330 G3 with ATA-Raid. I installrd 4 x 40Gb HDD as a raid 1+0 then started the Smartstart cd which came with the server (ver 6.3) when it came to setup i got the following message "The primary controller is not supported by this version ..." I have tried to boot via an hdd on the cd rom cable but the RBSU will not let me change the boot seqence from ata-raid to ide. I'm sure ive missed something but can't work it out for the life of me!!!!!

Re: ML 330 G3 Smart Start Problem

I've seen it posted in these forums before that the ATA (or IDE) interface used for the CDROM drive on most Proliant servers does not support anything other than the CDROM drive. ie you cannot mount a hard disk on it as you would in a desktop PC and boot from it. I have not seen a reason for this but it is the case.

I cannot answer the part of your question about SmartStart. Perhaps someone else can respond.
It's got two chances - it will either work or it won't!

Re: ML 330 G3 Smart Start Problem

Finally got a response from HP they tell me it needs to have ver 6.4 of smartstart for this server but they had sent ver 6.3, so i downloaded the raid driver for win2k and did a manual install.
thanks for the reply
