Re: ML110 G5 - embedded SATA RAID
it is hardware raid chip it is not on an independant card it is embedded in the system board ,
the ones on their own card are much more reliable,,and much better for many reasons.
a quick read here will help
http://www.acsdata.com/raid-basics.htm
to set up this server use the easy setup cd it is easy..
from here
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3577715&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3577708〈=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20%C2%BB
choose the Os you want to install
then download the easy setup cd
boot from that and follow the wizards..
Enjoy :)

...not so much. The "Easy" Set-up CD explicitly does NOT support the SATA RAID controller embedded in the ML110 G5. To install it you have to do a few tricks - Either
1. Lay your hands on a USB floppy drive or something else which emulates a floppy - must appear to the DOS portion of Windows installation as A: drive; or
2. Get Windows running with a single disk, with the HDD controller running as ordinary SATA; then force install the driver for the RAID controller; shut down, and on reboot switch the SATA controller to RAID; continue reboot and go into the RAID controller setup and configure the RAID set, carefully making sure you build from the disk that already has Windows installed.
Nothing "easy" about any of that!

Re: ML110 G5 - embedded SATA RAID
guisde says "Easy Setup CD" which seems to have all the drivers, etc, comes with a sheet of paper instructing to download the "Embedded SATA RAID controller" from their website.
This sheet also has a 6 step instruction to install the said driver (i.e. Press F10, enable RAID, Rebboot, press F8, etc, etc).

Re: ML110 G5 - embedded SATA RAID
However on closer inspection it turns out you need to have the (Optional Extra, of course!) LO100 (ILO card) installed to use that method.

Re: ML110 G5 - embedded SATA RAID
The Server User Guide (document c00260539.pdf) says on p50:-
-------
Required hardware
Installing the Embedded SATA RAID driver requires a diskette drive or a CD-ROM drive.
In a Microsoft® Windows® OS environment, driver installation is supported only with a USB diskette drive or LO100 Virtual Floppy for the following servers:
- HP ProLiant ML110 G4 Server
- HP ProLiant ML115 and ML115 G5 Servers
- HP ProLiant ML150 G3 and G5 Servers
Some servers do not ship with these drives as standard hardware
-------
There have been others criticising HP in these forums for not supplying some means of installing the drivers but I really don't see this as HP's responsibility (OK maybe they are lazy, but there could be some technical reason for not making the Easy Installation CD work with it, maybe).
M$ on the other hand has known for at least the last 5 years that floppies were on the way out - indeed, I remember selling the first desktops without floppy drives standard, at least 5 years ago. And yet the initial phase of Windows install *still* only supports the A: drive as the means of installing mass storage drivers. A bit paleolithic, in my inflated opinion. I'm sure it's not rocket science to extend the installer program to recognise USB keys or CDs?
