ML110 G5 - RAID with 1TB drives

Hi,

I have a ML110 G5 and want to create a RAID using the embedded controller. It looks like there is a 750GB limit on the drives that can be used (I have 2x 1BT), is there a way to increase it? Firmware up/downgrade, driver update? If it is not possible, is there a way to limit my drives to 750 GB so I can create the RAID?

Cheers!

Hi,

yes, the biggest HDDs supported from the server...what you are trying to do is not possible in my opinion.

If the HDDs are not recognizd in bios, then no way...if you recognized them and have a problem during install, then you can try with smaller logical drive, but else, don't think there is such capability. Maybe in the future a controller firmware update will allow 1TB HDDs, but for now I'm not aware of such one...

What you can have is a logical Drive of 2TB, wich consists on 4 SATA HDD, 500GB each one configured in a RAID 0. Or 1TB RAID 1

Did you ever get the server going with 1Tb disks ?

Re: ML110 G5 - RAID with 1TB drives

I don't really see the problem. The only limitation is in the size of the drives being offered right now from HP. 1 TB drives should work fine.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Re: ML110 G5 - RAID with 1TB drives

Can I reopen this thread?

I am looking to do the same thing - install 2 x 1TB drives in an ML110 G5.

HP docs give a max drive size of 750GB, but I'm not sure if this is because they don't sell anything bigger.

Will the BIOS/drivers recognise 1TB drives?

hi, I'm just creating an array with 1TB disks and my ML110G5 recognises them.

Great, thanks.

For reference, can you tell us the model of hard disc and the OS you're using.
