ML150G3 SATA/SAS Controller

I am setting up a new server and having issues getting the drives to load during the Windows Server 2003 setup. I have created the drive in the controller and the BIOS sees the drives with no problems. The lights on the drives (SATA) are green.

I load the driver using F6 and the system can not see the drives. The driver I am using is cp007813.exe Can anyone shed some light on what is wrong here.

Sorry, I should have clarified that this box has the E200 Sata/SAS Raid controller. We are not using the on board controller.

did you unzip the file (.exe) in a floppy and you are using a floppy drive hp branded?

because the one you're using is the correct one

Hello Dan,
I recomend you several things:
1. Try to use HP USB Floppy drive, otherwise the server will not recognize third party USB floppy drive. Try to use a HP product.
2. HP has a product that simulate a USB key to work as a floppy drive, you can download this application at the following address:

3. The last option, use the nliteos application, you can download it at www.nliteos.com, this application will create windows installation CD with all the drivers you will need to install the server, just download for the HP website and extract, then use this application.

I am currently setting up the same server. and would like to know if there isn't and HP Smart Start CD to configure the raid or do you have to use the drivers that are situated on the support CD. I am use to this being the case on the other servers i've setup of HP's eg. DL 380's.

Then I am completely lost. I spent 3+ hours on the phone yesterday with HP Tech Support and still have gotten no where. Very agrivated at this point. Why not have a smart start CD for your 100 series servers? Wouldn't that save tech support calls and aggrivated customers?? I usually buy 300 series but did not need the power for this server.

Here are the steps I have taken so far..

Verified that the drives are indead attached to the backplane and connected to the add-on SATA/SAS Raid Controller (Nothing is plugged into the on board controller ports..)

Disabled the on board SATA Raid Controller through the BIOS.

Created the RAID 1 Mirror of the two 80 GB SATA Drives. Used F8 to enter the BIOS of the the SAS/SATA RAID Controller. When booting, it shows the 1 virtual drive, which is correct.

I have created a floppy and attempted to load (Do not have an HP USB Floppy), buit I do see the system reading the USB Drive when it loads the driver.

I have also used the NLIteOS software and created a load with the driver and still no go.

After 3 hours on the phone with HP Support and the tech telling me things that did not make sense, I hung up and brought the machine back from the customers to my office so I can get this server working, instead of looking like a fool in front of the customer.

I will attempt the USB Thing..

Anyone have any ideas??

what error did you get using nlite?

you just include the driver in the link I gave you

you create the iso image include the driver when nlite ask for it and that's it.

Are you using the HP SAS/SATA 4 in 1 cable, part # 438160-B21?

From the quickspecs this is a required cable to get the E200 controller working.

What is the part number on the cable you are using?

Using Nlite, I got the Drives not found error when attmpting to load Windows Server 2003.

I did only add the drivers to the NLite CD as per the instructions..

This server is HP's part number 430767-005 . The only thing added is the 2 80 GB Sata Hot Plug Drives.

That's the part number for the server itself, can you look at the cable going from the E200 controller to the drive cage and read off any part numbers? The format will be xxxxxx-xxx

Upon further checking and reading. I have discovered that the controller in this system is the LSI LOgic controller and not the E200 as previously thought. The specifications are unclear, hense the confusion. I have now loaded the cp007781 driver and all is working.

I am suprised that the HP tech, when pulling the system config via the S/N did not notice that the card was an LSI Logic and not the e200.

In defense of the HP Tech...If you look up any ProLiant serial number, it won't tell you what controller options are present or added to the server after or during purchase.

Wow. That suprises me that it would not populate in their system. It is their build, I made no changes except to add the 2 drives...

I guess what I mean is, that if you had purchased an E200 option, they wouldn't have seen it via the serial number the only way they would know you had one is if you told them.

Options never show up via a server SN, even Hard drives or extra memory or NIC cards.

in that situation it's much better not losing time and checking what controller you have when
the server is rebooting or in the boot controller order to be completely sure what driver you need

Guys, I have some relevant problems to this:

"Dear support,

We recently bought a new ML150 G3 server with embedded sata raid controller. I installed 2 of the same HDDs to create a RAID1 array. I`ve set it up in the bios, got into the controller`s bios, created the array, initialized it (like with the other 50 servers I installed in the past years), so the controller said the array was healthy. Although when I started windows (2003 SBS Premium), it showed 2 hdds with the same capacity and the same content. But when I created a file on one hdd, it didn`t create on the other one, so the raid was not functional. I downloaded all the drivers I could get, but no luck. I downloaded all the utilities I could get (Intel Matrix storage manager, HP Storage Manager), but they didn`t help me. I called HP support, and they said, the raid controller the ML150 G3 has is a software raid, not a hardware one. Anyway it should still just work...

I agreed that we have to buy an additional controller card in our server. Because of the usability of the hp website (useless), I tried to contact our hp retailer, and they recommended the SC44Ge HBA. We bought it, I installed it today, downloaded the drivers, but HP Storage Manager still says no controller found. And when I restart the server I see 2 BIOSs: one for the embedded, and one for the new controller. But when I get into this new BIOS, it says that this controller is a SAS RAID controller, and it doesn`t recognize the sata drives. Also it`s weekend, so I can`t get ANY support from HP.

My questions are:

- Is the embedded controller capable of creating raid 1 arrays? So I could just see 1 hdd in windows instead of 2 different? If yes, please write me down how to create a working array.

- HP should let us pay them a lot of money, but then they should tell me which controller will work with hardware RAID1?
