ML30 - replacing disk is RAID1 array (SmartArray S100i)
We have an ML30 two two 250GB SSDs in a RAID1 array (SmartArray S100i) as the main OS system/boot drive
The disks are at about 30% of life left and so I want to replace them with two larger SSDs I have
How do I go about doing this exactly?
Do I just turn if off, replace a disk, have it rebuild and then repeat for the other disk? Or is there some special procedure?
Thanks

Re: ML30 - replacing disk is RAID1 array (SmartArray S100i)
Hello,
RAID 1 is data mirroring. Even if you add a larger capacity drive in the array, the usable capacity will always be equal to the smaller size drive in the array because the array is initially created in that way.
For RAID 1 , the best thing to do is, Take a backup, install the new drives, (Larger capacity), Create RAID and restore the data from the backup.
Thanks,
TAM

And what is we use drives of the same size as the originals? What is the process then?

Re: ML30 - replacing disk is RAID1 array (SmartArray S100i)
Yes, in that case you need to replace it one by one. Replace one drive, wait for it to rebuild completely , and then you can replace the other one.
If the drives are hot-plug, you can replace it on the fly, without getting the server down. The server will function normally with one drive as well because of RAID 1 redundancy.
Thanks,
TAM
