ML330 G2 Continuous Beep

I have a Ml330 G2 that has developed a continuos beep after boot. I cannot seem to find any indication of a failed hardware device in event viewer or Compaq Diag. Beep start after the adaptec controller laods on boot. Windows seems to run fine with no errors. any help would be appreciated

Hi Marinfr:

What adaptec controller it is; some controllers did have beeps.

What happens if you shutdown the server and reboot it.

Dose the beeps stop.

Tarek.

Re: ML330 G2 Continuous Beep

Hello,

which Adaptec controller did you installed? Check with the adaptec manager if it isn't failed! I think the Adaptec controller or the attached device has an error condition which HP Diagnostics cannot detect.

Re: ML330 G2 Continuous Beep

Thanks to both of you on your response. The controller card is a Adaptec 3960D Ultra 160/m PCI SCSI card. If I reboot the server the beep goes away but returns during boot up. It does seem to correlate with the loading of the adaptec card.

Would this signify that the card is failing or a drive? The Comaq diags did not report any drives as failed.

any help on this would be appreciated.

thanks

Re: ML330 G2 Continuous Beep

Go to the smart array configuration utility. A message should appear telling you that there is a member of the array that failed. I know this answer is already late. This just might help others who may encounter the same problem.

Re: ML330 G2 Continuous Beep

Thanks for all the imput from all. It appears that the scsi adaptec utility was the cause of the tone. It seemed to be indicating that the raid array was corrupt and needed to be rebuilt. I ran the utility with the scsi raid card and the tome was corrected.

thanks again for everyon'es input
