ML330 G6 Processor

Hello

I have an ML330 G6 Server from a customer that at bootup turns on but then turns off two seconds later and has the external health monitor led flashing red with an amber processor led indicating a failed processor.  I ordered a replacement processor and installed it but received a 207 memory error.  I then discovered it was an L5609 processor and the server had an E5502 processor so I ordered the correct proc and installed it today.  Results of this were the same as the old processor.  No boot, turns off, etc.  I then reinstalled the L5609 and it then powered on normally, this time with no memory errors, or any other errors and proceeded to boot to SUSE Linux normally.  This server was put into service in November of 2010 and has operated fine until recently when it was returned to us.  Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?  We mostly do their desktop repair so this is a rare occurrence.

Hi,

The ML330 G6 server does not support either of the two processors you mentioned.

Intel Xeon Processor E5502 (4M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 4.80 GT/s QPI)
Intel Xeon Processor L5609 (12M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 4.80 GT/s QPI)

Two of the above processors are not supported according to the QuickSpecs http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13361_div/13361_div.html

But any how, its recommended to update the BIOS to the latest before updating or changing the processor.
