ML350 G5 not recognizing 64GB installed

Hello,

Hope this is the place for a question like this... I have purchased an 8x8 memory pack for these servers (495604-B21), and have applied the latest firmware update, but only 32GB are showing up.

The setup screen shows the full 64GB initialized, but only 32GB on the boot up, and 32GB avail in ESXi 4.

I've gone through the various setup screens, restored default settings and still no success.

Any ideas welcome!

Thanks,

Eddie

Re: ML350 G5 not recognizing 64GB installed

Hi,

ML 350 G5 as per quick specs (HP Product Bulletin) only supports maximum up to 32 GB depending on your processor model.

Memory:
Eight PC2-5300 Fully Buffered DIMMs (DDR2 667) sockets with online-spare support for cost-effective memory configuration and expansion and 2:1 interleaving
Up to 16 GB of memory supported on Dual-Core 5000 and 5100 series
Up to 32 GB of memory supported on Dual-Core 5200 series, Quad-Core 5300 and 5400 series

Thanks

Re: ML350 G5 not recognizing 64GB installed

Hello SF,

Thanks for replying.  I am aware of the quickspecs, and we thought about that at length before picking up this RAM pack.  We also saw many postings for this 64GB HP part being compatible with the ML350 G5, and many other servers of the same vintage.

As I mentioned in the setup screen the server is definitely seeing all 64GB, but on splash screen and in software it is not.  Is this a software limitation by HP for this particular server, since other servers with the same chipset can utilize 64GB?

Thanks,

Eddie

Re: ML350 G5 not recognizing 64GB installed

After further research, it seems apparent that this is in fact a limitation that HP implements to limit a server that otherwise should be fine utilizing 64GB of RAM.

I know this is an older server, but it would in fact be perfectly servicable in regards to processor and I/O functionality as a VM host with more RAM for many businesses.
