ML350 G5 - Smart Array e200i // Replaced Hard Drive. Rebuilt offline // initialization failed loop
Hello all,
This past week (while I was on vacation of course!) we had a failed Hard drive in our e200i RAID 5 (3 x 146 HP SAS 15K) which caused the array to be disabled. After re-enabling the array, replacing the drive and rebuilding the Array offline, all appeared well.... until this weekend.
Since Sunday afternoon, we've had drive (newly replaced, showing as 'Box 1L:bay 16) recovering to '100%' then recycling to start recovery again. The Parity Initialization Status reads: Initialization failed, but there's no sign from the ACU of a failed hard drive and I don't currently have a spare to test this (new spare ordered).
Any thoughts on what I can do to kick out of the recovery mode loop? I've attached the ADU in case it's helpful. Thanks in advance!

Re: ML350 G5 - Smart Array e200i // Replaced Hard Drive. Rebuilt offline // initialization failed l
Hi,
After checking the ADU Report, here is what I think the problem is:
[ Physical Drive (146 GB SAS) 1I:1:2 ]
Read Errors Hard 0x00000000
Read Errors Retry Recovered 0x0000001e
Read Errors ECC Corrected 0x0000000000000000
Write Errors Hard 0x00000000
Write Errors Retry Recovered 0x00000001
[ Physical Drive (146 GB SAS) 1I:1:3 ]
Read Errors Hard 0x0000000e
Read Errors Retry Recovered 0x00000000
Read Errors ECC Corrected 0x0000000000000039
Write Errors Hard 0x00000000
Write Errors Retry Recovered 0x00000000
[ Physical Drive (146 GB SAS) 1I:1:16 ]
Read Errors Hard 0x00000000
Read Errors Retry Recovered 0x00000000
Read Errors ECC Corrected 0x0000000000000000
Write Errors Hard 0x00000000
Write Errors Retry Recovered 0x00000000
I 'guess' drive 2 and 3 has some problem which is causing drive 16 not to rebuild completely.
I would reboot the server using SmartStart CD and perform Diagnostics from Maintenance menu. This is an offline diagnostics that is more powerfull than ADU.
Thank You!
I am a HP employee
