ML350 Gen 9 Issues with Additional Drive Cage/RAID

We have a customer site with ML350 Gen9 with all 8 SFF bays being used, so we have purchased a new  1 X HP Smart Array P440/4G , 1 X ML350 Gen 9 SFF Cage, and 2 x 872481-B21 1.8th SAS 10k Drives, every time we go into the Smart Array it says 'There are no configurable physical drives attache to the current Smart RAID/HBA Controller' We thought it could be the SAS cable so we have tried both part numbers 780991-001 & 774615-001 with no Joy. The Drives have power as they light up on power on to the server. Running out of ideas.

I would suggest you, check/update the SA controller firmware first.

Make sure system bios and SA controller firmware should be updated before adding the hard disk.

BIOS is on the latest version, looks like there is a update for the P440 card, how is the best way to update this? can it be done from a ssh line on ESXI?

Please follow the below steps.

To generate an Online ADU on G8-G10 please use the Smart Storage Administrator.

ADU for Windows

Running Windows 2012R2/2016/2019 with the Array Diagnostics Utility installed; if it’s missing you can download it from here: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_6b906530d6624549bff23e4eab

1. From the start menu under Programs –- HP System Tools – HP Array Configuration utility –- start the program
2. Once it’s open there are three tabs on the top; the middle one is called “diagnostics” -> select it
3. Once under diagnostic on the left-hand side you’ll see a list with all Smart Array Controllers you can run a report for
4. Once you’ve made your selection of controllers, you’ll get two options “view diagnostic report” or “generate diagnostic” report, select “generate diagnostic report”
5. Once the procedure is done click on the “Save report” button in the bottom right corner and select a destination folder
