ML350 server become very slow

Hi, one of my customer is complaining that ML350 is becoming very slow after installing and running one of their propietary application. So they are asking for opinion from me is there any way to improve the performance of the server without adding new hardware such as shutoff those unneccesary default processes running at background or enable hyperthreading(do ML350 have this)?

any suggestion will be greatly appreciated

Hi,

Disable any unneeded services - without knowing what roles this server performs, it is difficult to advise.. however the MS Security configuration tool (comes with 2003 SP1 - turn it on through add/remove program > windows components) lets you select the role of your server, and it disables any unnecessary services. This should go along way to improve the system performance.

Also, do the usual, Disk Defrag, move page file to a separate disk if it is not already.

Also, make sure that no effects are turned on for the display settings (these are off by default, but some people turn them back on!)

is it a straight ml350 G1. if so its motherboard will not have the support for a hyperthreading CPU. same goes for G2. try running a full system virus scan, and defragment the hard drive. also clean out the server inside it with a vacuum to remove any dust etc and try removing any uneccessary pci cards. if all else fails then back-up the machine and reformat the drives and install a fresh copy of the OS

Hi Bevis,

check the Server after format and reinstall the OS.
if it is working fine... it may be the issue with that particular application.
