ML350G5 slow disk transfer issue

Hello

New ML350 G5, 2 SAS disk of 75Gb, 3 SATA disks of 750Gb.
The 3 SATA are in Raid5.

1) how is the channels ?
On the stickers inside its says : Channel1=bays1+2+3+4 , channel2=bays5+6+7+8
ok fine, but physycally there are only 6 bays ???

Copying locally a huge file (VHD of 20Gb) takes ... 16 hours to complete !!!

All drivers seems to be the last ones from the website.

Any advices ?

Thanks you

Re: ML350G5 slow disk transfer issue

Hi
ML350 G5 model have two drive support.
System have 6 drive bay, it must be use 3.5" SAS/SATA hard disk.
System have 8 drive bay, it must be use 2.5" SAS/SATA hard disk.

And if your copy data have many directory, it take a longer time.
Use xcopy or robocopy. it may cause more less time than just use windows explorer.

c:> help xcopy
c:> xcopy /x/o/e x:\test y:\test

have a nice day!!

Re: ML350G5 slow disk transfer issue

Hello
Thanks for your very quick reply.
Xcopy is not the solution: it was for me only a way to explain the abnormally slow of the disks. I run virtual server on this system and the performances are the same as a pentiumII with 8mb of ram !! :-)

Access to the disks are not functionning in a acceptable way.

I understand the 6 bays because I have 3.5 disks. Can I presume that if the 2 SAS system disks in bays 1+2 and the 3 SATA raid5 data disks are in bays 4+5+6, then both raid are separated on both channels?

Is their special recommandation for the installation : Win2K3R2 X64 + virtual server R2.

Re: ML350G5 slow disk transfer issue

Do you have antivirus running on the machine?

And beware that RAID 5 is slow on writing.

Accept or Kudo
