ML350p gen8 unable to initialiaze slot

Hello,

I have a problem with my ML350 gen8, E5-2630 v2.

During post it comes up with the known 207 error about failing to initialize ram on a specific slot only if I reboot the OS.

If I shutdown the OS (windows server 2016) everything posts normally and all ram gets initialized.

It is always the same slot that gets reported (socket 1 slot 9).

In iLO the modules seem present but unused.

I populated all slots correctly (at first 8x8gb dd3-1600) a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h. Updated latest iLO and ROM.

Then only white slots 4x8gb (two different sets of modules).

Then only white slots 4x4gb.

Modules are all HP.

Faulty slot ?

Last thing to try is move the CPU to socket 2 (I have a single CPU setup) and try there.

Any ideas ?

Re: ML350p gen8 unable to initialiaze slot

I actually removed the cpu and saw some bent pins in the socket, maybe this is the cause.

Anyway I removed all dimms and installed what fitted only in channels 1 and 2 (slots 1-6).

I know this isn't the recommended way ofcourse.

But aside the dual channel operation not fully utiliaze the potentials of the server, is there any stability issues of continuing like this for the time being ?

Or can the server operate in a single cpu mode but with the processor located only in socket 2 ?

Again I know the recommeded stuff, but I just don't want to scrap this server yet.

Re: ML350p gen8 unable to initialiaze slot

Hello John,

It is generally Processor 1 that controllers most of the PCI devices and storage controller.
and CPU1 being the Primary Processor should always be installed.

the server most likely will not boot if you populate only Socket 2.
