NS204i-u boot device - cables??

Hi

I'm looking for clarification on the cable kit requirement when installing an NS2041-u boot device into a Gen11 DL380. I'm 99% certain I need to include part B52152-B21 along with the boot device but can't understand why HPE would market this boot device with the following information:

"HPE NS204i-u is a universal installation hot plug OS boot device that includes two 480 GB M.2 NVMe SSDs. The universal installation removes the need for cables and backplanes. This device no longer takes up a PCIe slot, and auto-creates RAID 1 volume."

Is this just an outrageously poor marketing wording for a device which DOES need a cable kit to be purchased along with the boot device? as it is causing a lot of confusion and needs to be changed!!

I think this previous post answers my question but it was a post from early last year and things may perhaps be different now,

Solved: NS204i-u Boot Device in a DL380 Gen11 DOES NOT COM... - Hewlett Packard Enterprise Community

Surely, HPE would have removed this confusing statement by now if the cable kit is still required??!!

Hello,

Hello,

The QuickSpecs of HPE NS204i OS Boot Devices indicates that there are no cable kits.

Please review the section "Installation of HPE NS204i-u Boot Device" and see if it helps.

Re: NS204i-u boot device - cables??

Hello @TVVJ,

that's exactly the problem @jlangmead is talking about.
Because P48183-B21 needs the P52152-B21 cable kit, but it is not mentioned.

I understand the argument and would also appreciate it if there was a reference to it.

Re: NS204i-u boot device - cables??

Thanks @Cali

Thanks for stepping in - are you able to confirm (in your experience) that P52152-B21 is definitiely needed? I need to order a bunch of these and wnat to make sure I order everything I need.

The only scenario that I want to avoid is that if these cables (and mounting bracket) is now bundled in with P48183-B21 or that these cables ship with the actual server itself eg perhaps pre-installed and just tucked to the side ready to be connected when the boot device is added \ or included in the accessories kit with the Gen11 server.

thanks again

Re: NS204i-u boot device - cables??

I just configure a ProLiant DL380 Gen11 with the HPE Configuration Tool and automatically the Cable Kit is added if I add the NS204i-u.

"NS204i-u Internal Cable Kit (P52152-B21) contains necessary data/power cables for all scenarios"

Re: NS204i-u boot device - cables??

Thanks

Yes - I see the same.

If you then deselect the cable kit, the configurator then flags an error and doesn't allow the configurator to create the build.

I just don't know why HPE still market this a not needing cables and don't include the requirment to include cables in the quickspecs - it really should be addressed.

Re: NS204i-u boot device - cables??

The text still sticks on the NS204i-p, which needs no Cable.
