I am looking for some information on the NS04i-u (HPE-P48183-B21) Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage Device. Are the drives that are part of this unit hot-swappable? Meaning if one of the two drives fails, can it be replaced and drive will rebuild without having to power down the server to replace? Just lilke you would replace any other drive that is in the front drive cage?
I am getting mixed answers, where some support people are telling me the server needs to be powered down first, and that the SSD drives cannot be changed while the server is up, and other documentation that says the drives can just be replaced.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: NS204i-u Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage Device
Hello,
The NS204i boot device enables you to mirror the OS through dedicated RAID 1. Please refer to QuickSpecs of HPE OS Boot Devices for this information.

Re: NS204i-u Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage Device
Are the drives hot-swap? Can I replace the drives without powering down the server? This will be installed in a HPE Proliant DL380 Gen 11 server.

SolutionIt depends on how the NS204 is installed.
Internal, no hotswap and power down the server.
On the back of the server, the NVMes are hotswappable if you configure the following option in OCA "HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 NS204i-u FIO Bundle Kit". This removes the metall bracket at the rear of the server where the NS204 is installed.
