NT Installation problem on ML530

Hello,

we are having problems re-installing NT Server onto a new Compaq ML530 after a compaq disk erase. The disk erase was carried out perhaps mistakenly to allow us to forget about some low level problems we had had previously.

Anyway we are now unable to install NT Server again. To start with we cannot boot of the Smart Start 4.90 CD.
We did manage to run the System Configuration Utility diskettes ok and can boot of the NT install diskettes.
We downloaded the SCSI 32 bit Array Controller from compaqs web site and it loaded fine also.
The process seems to run to a natural conclusion (where it says "This part of the setup completed successfully") allowing us to select a 2 GB partition for the OS etc after which point it asks us to restart the server without any cdrom or diskette.
We do this but is comes back without any further NT screens and simply a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.
We are well and truely lost - cant seem to find our way out of this from here - any help much appreciated.

Re: NT Installation problem on ML530

You posted in the wrong forum. But we ran into the same exact problem. Run smartstart, and select the option that says "System Erase", or something like that. (I think it's the 3rd icon from the left). It's not enough to run system configuration utility. You have to Erase all configuration data from the Eprom, then run system configuration as if it was the first time it ran. Good luck.
