Old Proliant 1500 6/200 Upgrade Problem

I have a Proliant 1500 that I just installed a working 6/200 FlexSMP proc upgrade card in along with the PAL chips to update the bios. The server booted fine and allowed me to change it's configuration the first time I powered it up, now it's give me 2 long beeps followed by 2 short beeps signifying it's overheated. I can let this thing sit overnight and I get the same error on boot up. I re-installed the old dual 166 card I had in the server and it boots fine. Any ideas why the 6/200 card would be throwing an overheating error everytime I try and start it? I know this machine is old but hopefully someone might have experienced this in the past.

Thanks,
Matt Jones

Mark,
I lost my donor machine before I was able to get the fan and loopback plug out of it, any chance you have part numbers for the fan and the plug so I can try and hunt them down?

Re: Old Proliant 1500 6/200 Upgrade Problem

Hi Matt,
The part number for the fan is 228478-001.
In the kit contents I am unable tyo find anything about the loopback cable. Can you give me any more details on this cable please.

Mark,
I don't anything about the loopback cable other then you stated in step 3 it needed to be attached to J12. I'll do some research and see what I can turn up.

Mark,
I have it booting now, just need to fix NT, it's freezing at the blue screen after listing the memory size and number of processors. Thanks for your help.

Re: Old Proliant 1500 6/200 Upgrade Problem

The new challenge is figuring out why I can't get it to boot any OS start up CD, it gets to the point where the OS wants to start for NT and 2000 Server and just hangs with all 5 drive activity lights lit solid.

Hi Matt,
Do you have the F10 partition installed?
Are you still getting the 2 short, 2 long beeps? This could be due to the fan cable is not installed properly. I have seen this before.
Since there is no OS on it can you run an erase and start fresh to see how that goes?

Re: Old Proliant 1500 6/200 Upgrade Problem

Mark,
I have the logical drive set up and the f10 partition installed, I get to the point in the install where it loads all the possible drivers then actually tries to start the OS before it hangs. I'm working on getting more current utilities and system rom on it, just that since the upgrade the floppy stopped working. I'e read on the Internet where others experienced the same problem with the E27 bios.
