One time boot option

One time boot option

Hello,

Can someone tell me if there is any difference in booting an .iso file from the Boot Options Menu (F11) attaching the file in the console and selecting the iLO Virtual CD/ROM in the One-Time Boot Status as Select UEFI Target option.

Best regards,

Florin

Re: One time boot option

Hello,

I believe your questions are answered in the last reply from Gwendolynland.

In simple words, Attaching the bootable USB physically to the server and using the one time boot menu requires someone to be physical present near the server however using iLO virtual media, you can perform this task remotely by attaching the iso file from the remote device.

Please reply if you have any further queries on this.

Thanks,
TAM

Re: One time boot option

@Tam92

I will explain a little bit more what we ecountered. We were trying to install an OS on a 32GB USB RAID 1 device using an ISO attached to the console and going through the F11 boot menu selection -> ILO Virtual CD/ROM but we had problems, the software giving format errors. When tried with the option of One time boot selecting the ILO Virtual CD/ROM, it worked, attaching again the same ISO file.... So that's why i'm asking if there is any difference in selecting these ways of booting from the CD/ROM matter in any way.

Re: One time boot option

Hello,

Both are ideally same.. Its just the ILO method is a virtual method.

The error you got while using iLO virtual media could be because of iLO issues like firmware/communication/network or browser issues.

We have tried this multiple times in the past. Same iso file can be used with both the methods.

Thanks,

TAM

Re: One time boot option

So must probably a bug in ILO as both methods use the same Virtual ILO CD/ROM.

Re: One time boot option

Hello,

You may try updating iLO to the latest firmware version and test once again.
