Overheating ML330 G3 CPU

Hi there, we have a dual cpu ML330 G3 running Windows 2000 server SP4. One of the CPU cooling fans needs replaced and the server is powering itself off every 30 mins or so due to a thermal event. What I was wondering is, can we remove the affected CPU and boot with just 1 CPU installed with no additional configuration?

Many thanks,

Paul.

If it's the CPU's Fan (Heatsink fan) that is failed, yes you can boot with only one CPU.

But if it's the system fan that failed, in that case you should replace the fan, otherwise the server will keep rebooting.

Thanks for your reply. Have since discovered the fault seems to have ben caused by a faulty PSU. Will keep you posted!
