P420 Controller high temperature on HP DL380e Gen8 (747769-421)
Hi!
Have brand new HP DL380e Gen8, uptime about 2 days.
In HP smart storage administrator i see:
Controller Temperature 87°C
Cache Module Temperature 40°C
Capacitor Temperature 22°C
I think controller temerature is too high (i have a little storage activity, but it's not huge for now).
This temperature disturbs me.

Re: P420 Controller high temperature on HP DL380e Gen8 (747769-421)
Hi,
I guess your server is in a data center with proper cooling.
What is the firmware version on P420, if you see the firmware revision history for this controller, there was some fixes for temperature issues.
Try firmware update for P420.
Thank You!

Re: P420 Controller high temperature on HP DL380e Gen8 (747769-421)
These P22x cards do run hot.
iLO controls the FANs using PID algorithms with values provided by the ROM. The setpoint value for this card is set to 85ºC. This means that iLO is going to do whatever is in its power to keep this card at or below 85ºC.
The HP DL380e Gen8 (747769-421) is a Storage Model. That front 12x LFF Hard drive cage limits the airflow to the back of the server where the P420 is located. On this system, iLO has to run the FANs much higher in order to keep the P420 card at or below 85ºC.
