P800 Additional external array appearing as identical, internal disks

Hello all,

I have a DL380 G5 with a P800 RAID controller. I have a four-disk internal array that came with the server, and now a SAS array attached externally by the SFF8088 port, which is split to four SATA ports on the backside of a SAS backplane.

Anyway, my issue is this:

When I connect the new devices to the external port on the card, they appear as follows with hpacucli ctrl all show config:

Smart Array P800 in Slot 3 (sn: PAFGF0P9SY407M)

array A (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB)

logicaldrive 1 (205.0 GB, RAID 5, OK)

physicaldrive 4I:1:1 (port 4I:box 1:bay 1, SAS, 72 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 4I:1:2 (port 4I:box 1:bay 2, SAS, 72 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 4I:1:3 (port 4I:box 1:bay 3, SAS, 72 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 4I:1:4 (port 4I:box 1:bay 4, SAS, 72 GB, OK)

array B (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB)

logicaldrive 2 (1.8 TB, RAID 0, OK)

physicaldrive 4I:1:0 (port 4I:box 1:bay 0, SAS, 2 TB, OK)

unassigned

physicaldrive 4I:1:0 (port 4I:box 1:bay 0, SAS, 2 TB, OK)
physicaldrive 4I:1:0 (port 4I:box 1:bay 0, SAS, 2 TB, OK)
physicaldrive 4I:1:0 (port 4I:box 1:bay 0, SAS, 2 TB, OK)

Expander 250 (WWID: 50014380060273BF)

SEP (Vendor ID HP, Model P800) 249 (WWID: 50014380060273BE)

So two main issues:

* They all show up on 4I, which is (I assume) the internal port. Should they not show up on 2E or something similar?

* They all show up as 4I:1:0. Obviously this makes it impossible to put them into a logical array such as RAID 5 or 6. You can see here I've set one up as a single logical drive for temporary use.

Another piece of data:

If I connect to the other external port, only one or two of the devices show up, also with the same 4I assignment.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks,
Colin
