Power supply fan failure (several machines)

Power supply fan failure (several machines)

Over the past two months, I have experienced four failures of the power supply. Specifically, one of the fans died (would not spin freely).

Compaq has been very helpful in providing replacement parts, however, this keeps a machine down for two-three days.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

Yes, we are having the same problem. We have replaced 8 power supplies in the past 2-3 months. We are now stocking parts because of it. Does anyone know if Compaq is coming out and saying there is a problem. It is always that fan 1 that is giving us problems. Where is the advisory on this Compaq???? How about telling us which serial #'s can be affected and send us replacements. Thanks!

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

I have 2 power supplies failing per week. It is becoming quite a nuisance. We are looking into purchasing spares, but I think Compaq should look into this.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

As a followup... the issue has continued. Several more have failed. Compaq refuses to pro-actively replace our remaining power-supplys. They have continued to replace the ones that are BROKEN. However that causes our company to be down a server for 2-3 days between receiving the problem, diagnosing the problem, calling Compaq and getting a replacement.

Very frustrating.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

In the past two-weeks we have had 5 fans die. It all most always is the #2 fan.

I have had the exact same problems with the fans. Always the #2 fan. This is becoming very frustrating.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

Update.... Last week had 7 power supplys fail. One is failing about every two days. It appears there is a new rev on the power supplys that are being sent out (it has an orange tag). I am hoping this is an indication that they are addressing the issue.

Has anyone noticed that the failure is at about a one year cycle? I mentioned this to my Compaq FE and he totally agreed.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

We've had a couple of DL360 power supplies fail during the last three weeks. Luckily, the failures were on non-critical servers. We plan to keep a couple in stock. However, Compaq should address this and have a recall program for the power supplies.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

Same situation over here. We have been working with our local reseller and the local Compaq support folks on this. Obviously, it is an issue. It looks like the revision 01 power supplies are the suspect ones, as the replacements have a revision 08 on them. If you properly prod the local Compaq folks, they can tell you a strategy for replacing them.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

We have had more then10 DL360 power supplies die over here. Compaq should probably consider have some kind of recall.

So far I have seen power supplies with revision 01 and 04.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

We've had at least 4 different DL360's with the same problem.

Re: Power supply fan failure (several machines)

After some really loud yelling, I got Compaq to admit to the problem and they have released a fix for it as of January 1, 2002. The new power supply is rev. 09 or higher. Anything below is bad. If anyone out there has 20 or more, you can have them proactively replaced. E-mail me and I will send you the information necessary to get the replacement. jeff_burga@nhc.adp.com.
