Problem to start my Proliant 6500

I have trouble when i start my proliant 6500. I push on the button and i can hear the fans. The server seems to be on but it is blocked, i cant hear the sound of working hard disks. I say hear bc unfortunately, on the monitor, there is nothing. I checked inside the server and there is a red led on one of the two redundant processor powers (just one, not all). Is it the cause? What the red light means exactly ? DO i have to change this part or just means that the part is not plugged correctly. Thank you for your help

Yes, it can cause the problem. You can try reseating the PPM, but if it does not resolve itself, see if rotating it with another PPM causes the problem to move or stay with the slot. You will then know which part is truly malfunctioning.

Re: Problem to start my Proliant 6500

Hi,

Could you please specifiy what LEDs are lit up when you power on the server, i.e in the front panel. The LEDs in most cases provide a clear indication of the problem that the server may be experiencing. i.e power supply,NIC related or internal system health.

Hope this helps and don't forget to assign points:)

Re: Problem to start my Proliant 6500

Ok thank you for your quick answer.
More details:
- When i push on the Power ON button, i can hear the fan running. On the 3 RAID Hard Drive, all the leds (2 green and 1 yellow) are on. So it is weird.
-On the Fan Board, all the leds (12V , 5v, AUX 5V) are on, so that seems to be normal.
- On the mother board, the Interlock Dels are all off (so everything should be plugged correctly). There are 6 others leds (from CR521 to CR527) which are all on.
- On the redundant processor power card, a LED on the top is red (it is called D1). I dont know what it means. I tried to switch the two different redundant card but the red light still appears on the old one. I guess the card crashed?
- But the weirdest thing is that i cant see anything on the monitor. The computer seems to be blocked or the display card crashed too?
Actually, i was trying to fix the CD ROM Drive, so previously, i removed the drive cage but then i re-put it correctly and re-plugg every neeeded cable. Do u think it is linked?
Thank you

Re: Problem to start my Proliant 6500

Alleluia. Previously, i ve switched the two redundant processor power module. it didnt work but now i put the redundant processor power module and the processor to an empty slot (#4). Now it is working...but now "Non-system disk or disk error" appears. I guess it is bc it cant found the boot program bc of the changement of place of the processor?

Re: Problem to start my Proliant 6500

You may want to rerun the System Configuration Utility so that the new hardware positioning is registered. Also ensure that the controller with the bootable hard drives is set to "controller order first" in this utility.
