Processor Upgrade
Is there an upgrade path from a PII300 to??? on my Proliant 1600r. Compaq tells me that there is none and the forums tell me that I can go to333Mhz -whoo hoo what a speed demon. Is that all there is? Can I put a PIII550 in this baby? Or even a PII450? Anything??? Please help.

Re: Processor Upgrade
Hi,
As far as I know you can only go up to the PII 333Mhz with the hardware you have. It's the front-end-bus speed that sets the limit.
http://developer.intel.com/design/pentiumii/datashts/
The PII 233...333Mhz family uses 66Mhz Bus-speed
http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/details.asp?sSpec=SL2KA&ProcFam=47&PkgType=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&CorSpd=5024
The next level up is the 100 Mhz bus... PII 350...PIII 733Mhz.
http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/details.asp?sSpec=SL2S6&ProcFam=47&PkgType=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&CorSpd=5025
...You would have to change the CPU-tray and I/O board... try looking at E-bay. I saw some on sale there.
Hope that helps...
Good luck!

Not possible !
PL1600 with a 350Mhz has a different system board than the 300Mhz model .
