processore 2 e relative ram non sono operative
buongiorno a tutti.
Comunque grazie in anticipo.

processor 2 and relative ram are not operational
good morning everyone.
I am a new member and practically a neophyte in the server world, not to mention the one currently being set up. I bought a used HP PROLIANT ML350 GEN9 and after turning it on I was convinced that it worked. I also thought that getting my hands on a server was all in all not very different from managing a normal PC where you install cards, drivers etc. all in a fairly simple way and instead I realize how much professionalism you need to have to get your hands on a server. let's get down to business: I buy a second cpu (XEON E5-2620V3), I buy some memory RAM and install everything, but the result is that the bios at startup counts 2 CPUs but does not count the cores of the second CPU or even the amount of RAM installed in correspondence with the second CPU. For a while I thought I could solve the problem but now I'm almost at the point of deciding whether to resell everything or try to ask you for help, and that's what I'm doing. I ruled out the processor defect as the problem because by swapping CPU1 with CPU2 the problem in the second socket remains. The layman's impression is that the entire second block of CPU and RAM is not getting power and if this were confirmed it could be irreparable damage or damage that can be fixed with some tricks. I would also add that during the boot phase the bios reported the lack of fan 1 (good luck I thought because it had noticed the presence of CPU2) but after purchasing and installing the fan I DID NOT DETECT ANY OTHER TYPE OF MESSAGE. I was a bit long-winded but I hope at least I was clear. If you can help me I would be grateful. Anyway, thanks in advance.

Hello,
Please ensure that the processor has the same option part number as the first one. Also ensure that the memory modules are the same part numbers. The reason is to avoid mixing components that operate at different speeds, core counts etc., as a general rule. You may refer to the options section of the HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen9 Server's QuickSpecs for more information.

vito

thanks TVVJ, thanks for the kind reply.
personally I believe there are all the requirements for the system to work. I try to attach the firmware versions, processor 1 and 2, so that you can evaluate if there are disturbing situations that I can't see. I also attach the evidence of the bios at startup where it detects the presence of 2 CPUs but only counts the ram and cores of one, that of the socket 1 line, while it does not take into account the specular ones present in socket2. Even inverting the configurations, physically moving cpu and ram from socket 1 to socket 2 and vice versa, the result does not change.
thanks again for the help you can provide me.

grazie

thanks ShruthiSK, I can't download a Bios update to the latest date because I don't have a support contract and without a support contract I have no idea how to get the latest Bios or Firmware. If you know how to do it, please suggest.

Hello,
Unfortunately the BIOS file would be available only if there is a contract on the server.
The BIOS version is too old which could be a possibility for the CPU socket to show this error.

I would say, Check iLO Logs>> Verify BIOS Settings>> Confirm Power Delivery>> Test with Minimal Components>> Inspect CPU Socket & Motherboard
If the issue persists, the next steps will be:
Check BIOS settings and iLO logs for CPU2-related errors
Confirm CPU2 power connection and possible VRM/riser module requirements.
Inspect CPU2 socket for damage and reseat the CPU
I hope this helps. Let me know
