Proliant 1600, Linux, and Power Management

I'm installing Gentoo Linux on a Compaq Proliant 1600 Server and I have everything configured except for power management. I am using a 2.6.10 kernel and any arrangment of compiling apm or acpi into the kernel or as a module has no effect. Manually loading modules gives the "No such device" message. I thought this machine supports ACPI, but I might be wrong. If I'm right, does anyone know how to get ACPI support on these machines?
