Proliant 370ML 3G Memory Issue
I just bought a new HP Proliant 370 ML 3g with 512 memory installed (2-256) chips. I also received additional 2-256 memory chips with my server. 2 where installed and the other 2 where in a packaged box. When I added the 2 additional memory chips in slot B3 B4, I get a long continuous beep. When I take out the 2 additional memory chips the server boots right up. I take out the original memory chips and insert the additional memory chips in to slot A1, A2 the server boots right up. I add the original memory chips in slots B3, B4 I get the long continuous beep. I looked in the Bios but didn't see any place I needed to make a change for 1024 MB's of memory. And the manual didn't mention any jumpers to set or bios changes to make. Does anyone have any ideas on adding additional memory? Both sets of memory chips are identical and everything came all together with hp seals in the order.
Thank you

Re: Proliant 370ML 3G Memory Issue
Hi
Accourding to above i can say :
1)2 long beeps show memory is not acepted on server.
2)Check IML log of the server for error logs.
3)Update the BIOS of server and then cehck but putting the same memory.
4)If we put addiotnal memory on is server booting.
5)Please share the part no of original memory and additional memory installed on the server.
Regards,
Prashant S.

Re: Proliant 370ML 3G Memory Issue
If the system is new, why did you not contact HP support directly? Why was it not configured before shipment?
It does sound as if the 2 groups of 2 of 256MB memory is not the same, but you say they all are indentical. Have you tried mixing 1 of 2 with 1 of 2 and A1 and A2? this should verify that both groups are the same. If that works then may be slots B are bad somehow, or not seating all the way. Check and make sure each module really gets seated and the latches get fully closed.
Take a look at the memory status LEDs with all the memory installed. THey are at the end of each slot towards the back. Amber is memory failed. Off in normal. There are also three other LEDs to the right of the memory LEDs. they too should be off. If one is green, online spare memory is enabled. Take a look at the front panel with all the memory installed. If red then the server has detected an error with interleaving or valid memory.
I would try and clear the configuration with all the memory in it, then see if the BIOS reconfigures to accept all the memory. This is done on SW1, front middle of the system board. All the switches should be off (Switch 2 is the Config. Lock and should be off). To reset the config., power down the server, set switch 6 to On. Power up will erase all the configuration data and halt the system. Power down. rest position 6 to the default Off. Power up again. You can now use F9 to reconfigure if needed.

Re: Proliant 370ML 3G Memory Issue
Thanks for you suggestions, but unfortunatly the server is still not taking more than 512 memory. The memory is part number 300678-B21 Serial # 0y0wlzb933 I have the current bios, every memory combination works except 4-256. with 2 - 256 chips the server boots up fine. When I add the additonal 2-256 chips I get the long continuous beep, and all lights are amber. I switched SW1 # 6 to on and I get the long continous beep. I will call HP and post what they say. Thanks for all your help
