Proliant 800: Disk Mirror cannot initialize
Hi,
I have a proliant 800 server running NT4 (SP6) with 2 x Seagate 4GB HDD.
I tried to mirror the disks but it cannot initialize (after establishing). I tried to update Compaq SCSI driver (SDD 3.4) but to no avail and the Event Viewer shows: "Event 12: Source:ftdisk Description: A stripe set or volume set member listed in the configuration information was missing".
I also tried to create a simple vol on the drive and its okay. I tried MS KB and delete the HKEY_LM\System\Disk key but its no use as it loses the disk info so i have to recreate the mirror again with the same prob arises. I also tried to replace the ftdisk.sys driver but also didn't help.
I include a text file from Compaq Diag on the server. Can anyone advise?

Re: Proliant 800: Disk Mirror cannot initialize
Hello Jonathan,
I was going through the Diag report which stated that the bios of your System is of the year 1997. Which definitely needs to be updated. The Softpaq you need to update can be downloaded from the following link:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/8571.html
Also here is another link which shall help you obtain other Software which you might need for your server.
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/7_1131.html
Another thing I also noticed that as per the diags report the operating system is showing as MSDOS which needs to be corrected as well. The best thing to do would be running the latest System configuration Utility which is 2.58A which can also be downloaded from the link No 2 I have provided in my reply. The exact SoftPaq No is SP19619 and you would required four diskettes to run Systems Configuration utility.
All the best.

Re: Proliant 800: Disk Mirror cannot initialize
Hi Sunsil,
I have updated the Bios and installed the HP 32-bit SCSI driver component (CP002886) but it gave the following error on the event viewer: "Event ID: 11 Source: cpq32fs2 The driver detected a controller error on \Device\SCSIPort1"
I changed the driver back to the older version (v3.00) and the above error is gone. I still can create a simple vol on the 2nd HDD but can't initialize a mirror (same prob like before i.e. Event 12)
Can you advise?
Rgds,
Jon
