ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

Each time I power the system on, I am greeted with the following error:

00020000 00 201-Memory Error
(Run System Configuration Utility or Run Diagnostics)
00100000 00 201-Memory Error
(Run System Configuration Utility or Run Diagnostics)

I have swapped out 3 pairs of memory to no avail.

It tells me to launch the System Configuration Utility, which I found and downloaded from another thread, but I can't utilize it since the server will load no further after that error.

Anyone experienced with this particular server?

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

Hi Michael Nyiri,

Is not every day that somebody greet you.

Fine now with your problem are you able to boot to os. Is the BIOS os the server latest. If not then do update the same

Try to clean NVRAM then check it. Two ways to clear NVRAM :

A) Invoke the System Configuation Utility (SCU)
At the SCU's main menu, press CTRL A, and a pop-up window should appear indicating that "Advanced Mode is Enabled".
Next, select "Configure Hardware" and a message should appear, "Loading Configuration Files"
Select View or edit details
Choose Erase Nonvolatile Memory under Advanced Options

B) If it is not possible to clear NVRAM from Advanced System Configuration (i.e. the server will not boot) there is a switch that will invalidate nonvolatile memory by erasing the checksum in nonvolatile memory.
Switch 7 located in switchbank 1 and identified as the Maintenance switch on the side panel label.
If the switch method is used to invalidate nonvolatile memory it is recommended that you then run the System Configuration in the Advanced Mode, View or edit details, and then choose Erase Nonvolatile Memory under Advanced Options. This will turn the contents of nonvolatile memory to all zeroes and thus leave the nonvolatile memory in a known state.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

I used your B method since the server cannot boot.

What is the proper way to clear the NVRAM? I flipped switch 7 to the on position, and then booted the server, and nothing changed. I get the same error.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

Hi Micheal, What server is this? I am not sure if all server use the same dip switch but on the dl320 to clear everything is switch 6, also on some servers the banks must be populated in a certain order and they don't always start with bank 1.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

It's a Proliant 800, the Pentium Pro variety. Switch 7, as Prashant said, is marked as the "Maintenance" switch.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

Also, I've tried many different configurations of RAM, including the one the server last booted with.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

I have two pairs of memory, both pairs have one Compaq module and one Kingston module:

The first pair are tall modules with a lot of memory chips, the second pair are shorter modules with less chips. The server booted before with both of these pairs installed.

For the first pair of memory, the compaq module has the part number 0V96340EUO5 (hard to tell difference between 0 and O)

Second pair, the compaq module is 48025.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

As for configuration, I've tried all 4 modules, the pair of tall ones, and the pair of short ones. No configuration works.

And I just found the third pair of modules which I also tried. This pair is both compaq modules, one is part number 47095 and the other is OV9834-9EC.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

Hi,

What is the processor information on server

Because for 180-200mhz the memory part no's are:
16-MB DIMM EDO/B (60ns) 269414-001
32-MB DIMM EDO/B (60ns) 269263-001
64-MB DIMM EDO/B (60ns) 269264-001
128-MB DIMM EDO/B (60ns) 269266-001

confirm the processor speed and part no is following format XXXXXX-XXX. So please procedd as follow

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

And I know for the fact they are 200Mhz Pentium Pros, and I even get a "Processor 1/2 initialized at 200Mhz" message when booting.

Re: ProLiant 800 Pro Memory Problem

Hi,

What Conclusion i am getting at is this
that part no provided by you
247289-002
247288-002
are not validating under same server.
But server can support Maximum of 512 MB and min 32 MB and opetional part no are as follow as i have told you.

256-MB 100-MHz SDRAM 313616-B21
128-MB 100-MHz SDRAM 313615-B21
64-MB 100-MHz SDRAM 313614-B21
32-MB 100-MHz SDRAM) 313613-B21

Since part numbers provided are not validating seems to be memory problem. Is that possible you can get it confirmed by any of your local vendors also where you purchased the same memory from. since to confirm and to upgrade the server memory we can buy one 256 MB from compaq that will resolve the issu and upgrade memory of server also.

Good night.
